Just thought I would give you an update on the book about my uncle.  I finally received clearance from the Army to get access to his records.  So in a about a week or so my dad and I will be going down to the National Archives, in St.Louis, MO to get the much needed research done.  Like I said before, I really do enjoy research, but I’m really looking forward to a couple days with my dad on a road trip.  With both of us working so much, it’s hard to get together for anything other than a couple of dinners every few months and the occasional summer bass fishing day trip.  With this book even though the writing will be my own, much of the emotional journey will be made with my dad.  In addition to a trip to the Vietnam memorial in Washington DC, I feel the need to go to Vietnam.  I know the wars been over for thirty five years and much of what was then, has simply been swallowed up by the jungle, but in order for me to really understand the play, I can’t just read the script, I need to see the set.  If I’m lucky enough to get to share those trips with my dad, I have a feeling that in addition and maybe even more so, I won’t just learn a hell of lot about who my uncle was, but who my father is.
